Cozy Innkeeper's Smoked Baked Potato Soup - DnD Inspired Cooking
Ingredients
- 8 slices thick cut bacon
- 1 cup butter
- ½ cup flour

- 2 cups half and half
- 2 cups water
- 1 tsp pepper
- 1 tsp roasted garlic granules
- ½ tsp salt
- 4 potatoes peeled and cut
- ½ cup green onions diced
- 1 cup smoked cheddar cheese shredded
- A few dashes imitation smoke flavor
- ½ cup sour cream

- Turn up the heat and bring to a boil, then lower the heat, cover, and simmer for 20 minutes.
- Add the cheese, seasoning, and imitation smoke. cover and cook for another 20 minutes. Sharpen your swords and check your adventuring gear in the downtime.
- Add the bacon and sour cream and simmer for 5 more minutes.
- Garnish with the remaining green onions and serve to your adventuring party on a crisp fall evening. Grant your Dungeons and Dragons players a cold resistance boost in their next session for eating this warm, cozy dish.

Best potato soup recipe ever! The fire demons did try to eat it first but I saved it.
So glad you liked it!
Thought this was great! One thing that worried me was that there were no instructions on when to put the garlic, pepper or salt so I ended up putting them in when it was simmering (I’m new to cooking lol). Does anyone know when the right time to put them in is for my next attempt?
Hey! It says “add seasoning” which includes those items 🙂
Phenomenal, new fav! I’m in New Zealand and we don’t have half and half here so used regular milk. Super creamy and decadent still.
Do we add the butter to the bacon grease?
Yep!
So it says “add potatoes” and “mash potatoes” in the same step… Do I boil/cook them ahead of time?
Hello! You add the ingredients specified in the step, including the potatoes, and then when they’re all together you have to mash up the potatoes so they mix with the other ingredients. You’ll be mashing them essentially raw but you can wait a little bit for them to soften if that’s too difficult.
Okay thank you. Mashing raw potatoes isn’t exactly easy so I was just wondering. Thank you for letting be me know. I’ve never made or had potato soup from scratch and my hubby has only had it from a can so I just wanted to make sure I was making it with right… TYSM! 🖤

I just finished making this for dinner tonight, and I just wanted to say that this is the best baked potato soup I’ve ever had. I followed this recipe up to the smoke flavoring at the end and the smoke flavored cheese (only because my husband isn’t a fan of the smoke flavor, so I left it out for his sake), but even without it, this soup is absolutely amazing, and is officially going to become a staple during the winter months. Thank you so much for this!!
We are so happy you like the recipe! Thank you for your kind comment 🙂
