Ingredients

  • 8 precooked chicken sausages hot dog/bratwurst size, we used Alfresco brand jalapeno flavored chicken sausages. You can also sub in different meats
  • 16 oz Skim/low-fat cream cheese you will have extra cream cheese mix
  • 3 jalapeno peppers seeded, diced, adjust for spice tolerance, this had a good punch
  • 16 leaves fresh basil optional, for garnish

Instructions

  • Let the cream cheese sit out for about 10-15 minutes before beginning to make it a bit easier to stir, but this part is not necessary.
  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and non-stick spray a large baking sheet
  • Slice the sausages longwise about 2/3 through so there is still a connecting seam running along the sausage. Gently flatten out the halves and lay cut side up onto your cutting board.
  • Mix the diced peppers in with the cream cheese and stir thoroughly.
  • Spoon 3 tbsp of the cream cheese mix on to each sausage, spreading the mix evenly along the length of the sausage. You will likely have excess cream cheese filling that you can save for other things.
  • Transfer the sausages to the baking sheet and bake for about 10 minutes, or until you see the cream cheese starting to bubble along the edges but try to avoid the cheese starting to melt off the sausages.
  • Let cool and then garnish each sausage with some basil and enjoy before your Dungeons and Dragons party has their next battle!

Notes

These sausages resemble the mighty longship of the Vikings and are perfect for feeding a hungry raiding party. One of our easiest recipes to make as well as featuring a fantastic balance of macros. Each longship has 7g fat, 8.5g carbs, and 6g protein so be sure to give your Dungeons and Dragons players a -1 to all damage taken during their next session! Feel free to experiment with this simple fantasy-inspired recipe. Use different flavors in your cream cheese, different peppers, and different sausages for a great level of variety if you're meal prepping a lot of these!
