Crusty Cheddar, Garlic and Rosemary Tavern Loaf - DnD, Fantasy, Video Game Inspired Recipes
Equipment
- 1 Dutch Oven
Ingredients
- 3 cup all-purpose flour plus more for dusting
- 2 ¼ tsp active dry yeast 1 packet
- 1 tsp honey
- 1 ¼ cup water warm, between 100-110F
- 4 tbsp garlic minced
- 2 tbsp fresh rosemary finely chopped
- 8 oz sharp cheddar cheese shredded
- 1 ½ tsp salt
- 1 tbsp olive oil
Instructions
First Rise
- Combine the yeast, warm water, and honey in a large mixing bowl. Let proof for 5 minutes (the mixture will become foamy).
- Add salt, rosemary, minced garlic, and cheese to the bowl.
- Add the flour a little bit at a time, and stir with a spatula until all of the flour is incorporated. The dough should be slightly shaggy.
- Coat all sides of the dough with olive oil, cover with a clean kitchen towel, and let sit to rise until the dough has doubled in size (about 1 hour).
Final Rise + Shaping the Boule
- Tip the dough out onto a lightly floured surface, do not flatten the dough.
- This loaf will be boule (round) shaped. Grab each corner of the dough and pull it to the center of the loaf, as if you are closing an envelope. Repeat this process about 4 times, or until the dough begins to feel slightly stiff.
- Flip the dough over. Using both hands, drag the dough towards you to create tension on the outer layer of the dough. Rotate the dough and repeat the process 2-3 more times or until the dough is a uniform shape with no tears.
- Flour a medium mizing bowl and place the loaf seam-side down. Cover with a clean kitchen towl and let rise for 30 minutes.
Bake
- Place the empty dutch oven into the oven and heat to 450F
- Once preheated, remove the dutch oven. Line with parchement so the bread will be easier to remove, and carefully add the dough seam side up.
- Cover the dutch oven and bake for 30 minutes.
- After 30 minutes is up, remove the dutch oven lid and continue to bake for 15 minutes, or until the bread gets a deep golden-brown color on top.
- Remove bread from oven and let cool.
- Slice, serve, and enjoy adventurer!
