Quest's End Maple Apple Bread
Ingredients
- ½ cup maple syrup
- 1 cup milk
- 4 tbsp butter
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 package active dry yeast
- ¼ cup warm water
- 1 tsp sugar
- 1 egg beaten
- 4 cups all purpose flour
- 3 apples peeled and grated into shreds
- 1 tsp cinnamon
- 1 tsp nutmeg
Instructions
- Place syrup, milk, butter, and salt in a pan over a medium temperature cooking fire or stove and melt the butter, stirring until combined. Let cool.
- Dissolve the yeast in the warm water with the sugar and let sit for 5 minutes in a large bowl.
- Throw in the syrup and milk mixture as well as the egg and stir.
- Gradually stir in the flour about a half cup at a time.
- Fold in the apples and spices.
- Move to a floured cutting board and knead for a few minutes. If it's still sticky after a bit, add in a touch more flour, continuing to add until it's just barely not sticky.
- Oil a separate bowl, transfer the dough to it, cover with a towel and let it rise for one hour.
- Knead the dough for a few minutes, cut it into two loaves, and let those rise for another 30 minutes.
- Heat oven to 375 °F (190 °C), place loaves on a greased baking sheet and bake until golden brown on the top, at least 20 minutes.
- Remove from oven and enjoy the warmest, sweetest, most fall tasting loaf of bread you've ever had!
