Curried Cockatrice - DnD Inspired Cooking

Who would've thought that such a horrible monster cooks up so well? With a spash of curry, this is a crispy delight for after your next DnD monster hunt!

Ingredients

  • 4 lbs boneless skinless chicken thighs, cut into 1 1/2-inch-wide chunks
  • ¾ cup flour
  • 5 tbsp curry powder
  • 1 tbsp yellow mustard
  • 2 tsp salt
  • ¾ tsp pepper
  • ½ cup olive oil
  • 2 ½ tbsp fresh ginger minced
  • 2 ½ tbsp garlic minced
  • 3 serrano chili peppers seeded, deveined, minced
  • 2 red onions minced
  • 5 cups chicken broth
  • tbsp nut butter we used almond
  • 5 tbsp butter
  • 1 ½ tsp ground coriander seeds
  • cup each finely chopped mint and cilantro
  • 3 tbsp lime juice
  • Rice for serving

Instructions

  • Rinse the chicken and pat dry, then toss in the flour, curry powder, mustard, salt and pepper.
  • Over a medium cooking fire or stove, heat some oil and then sauté the chicken in small batches for 3 minutes per side. Remove the chicken and set aside.
  • Once all the chicken has been removed, in the same pot throw in the onions and sauté for about 5 minutes, then remove.
  • Add the ginger, garlic, peppers, and 1 cup of chicken brother and cook for 2 minutes. Then add in the nut butter, and regular butter, then the remaining 4 cups of chicken broth, stirring continuously.
  • Return the chicken and onions to the pot and simmer for 20-25 minutes.
  • Serve over a bed of rice, topped with coriander, cilantro, and mint, to hungry DnD adventurers!

Notes

This recipe is relatively easy while tasting absolutely gourmet. We used some Cockatrice that a Dungeons and Dragons party brought to us, but any poultry will do! There's also a lot of room to get creative with the ingredients. You can try different nut butters, peppers, and spices, and it'll turn out great!
