Jolly Goblin's Sweet Trash – DnD, Fantasy, Video Game Inspired Cooking

A delicious, crunchy, caramelized snack that was taught to me by some mischevious goblin friends that live nearby. At first I was unsure due to the name they gave the dish, however upon trying the delicious snack I could not stop eating it! I'm not sure if it was magic or just a delicious creation at play, but now I will share the recipe with you!
Course Snack
Cuisine American
Keyword butter, cereal, nuts, pretzel, sugar, sweet
Servings 20 goblins
Cost 5 gold

Ingredients

  • 1 cup dark brown sugar packed
  • 1 cup butter salted
  • ½ cup Karo light corn syrup
  • 12 oz Crispix or a mix of rice and corn chex
  • 2 cup Pretzels I used pretzel twists (the classic shape)
  • 1 cup Pecans halved, or chopped into large chunks
  • Sprinkles optional, your choice of color!

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 250F (121C)
  • Mix Crispix, Pretzels, and Pecans together in a large bowl.
  • Grease a large baking sheet, and pour the dry mixture onto the sheet. Flatten it out so it is evenly dispersed across the sheet. Set aside.
  • Heat up a pan on medium heat. Add butter, sugar, and corn syrup to the pan.
  • Keep stirring as the butter melts, making sure to scrape the sides and bottom of the pan as you stir to prevent burning.
  • Continue stirring for around 4 minutes until the mixture is fully melted and combined.
  • Once fully combined, pour the mixture over the dry ingredients on the baking sheet. Toss well to evenly coat.
  • Bake for 1 hour, stirring every 15 minutes.
  • Remove from oven and immediately add sprinkles while the Sweet Trash is still sticky. We added holiday sprinkles when we made this around Christmas time, but any sprinkle mixture will work!
  • Let cool and serve!
